We created The Big Wirral Map for local primary schools as a classroom aid for teachers in Key Stage 1 and 2. It has become very popular!
The map works in different ways:
As a display
The map is a permanent colourful addition to classrooms or communal school areas to help children understand how their school fits in locally, nationally and globally. To customise and increase the relevance for your school, the logo/crest is added in your location as well as other local institutions or landmarks that are important to you. For example, a regular school trip destination or particular local landmarks.
As a permanent indoor or outdoor display the map will naturally create a talking point for children as they orientate themselves, anticipate school trips or share their weekend activities with their friends and teachers.
As a classroom aid for specific subjects:
The map can be used as an aid to the study of geography in KS1 and 2. It can be used to demonstrate:
- Transport links
- Local environments and nature
- Physical geography
- Basic map reading skills and orientation
The map can be used as an aid to the study of science in KS1 and 2. It can be used to help demonstrate:
- Living things in the environment and care for the environment
- Water cycle
